Relationships
It's all about relationships. With Jesus, first of all. With One another. And with our neighbors.
The Three Great Commandments:
Loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
- Matthew 22:37
Loving our Neighbor as ourself.
- Matthew 22:39
Loving One Another as Jesus has loved us.
- John 13:34-35
So...
We stick to things that open the door to building relationships. So, for example, we let someone else do mass distribution of food. We want to have time to get to know a hungry person.
We value Biblical diversity - One body, neither Greek, Gentile, Male, Female, Rich, Poor, Black, White, Brown, Purple :), Immigrant, Citizen, Able, Disabled, Bright, Dim, Tall, Short, Fat, Skinny...
Our passion is for all of us at the bottom of the economic ladder who are so often forgotten and feel unwelcome. We are somebody in God's Kingdom, and in our church!
We are in transition from a "ministry program" style of church to a grassroots community of cells/house churches that love one another and actively care for those around us in need.
Love isn't divided.
When you love someone, you care about all of them. Their soul, certainly. But their body, their relationships, their mind, their situation, as well...
-
If their community is dangerous, you care about safety and peace.
-
If their school is a mess, you care about their education.
-
If their house is falling down, you care about decent housing.
- If they are being oppressed, you care about justice.
-
If they are sick, you care about health care.
-
If they are hungry, you care about food.
-
If they are alone and discouraged, you care about community.
- If they are powerless, you care about empowerment.
-
If they are far from God, you care about their soul.
