Volunteer Opportunities
Falling In Love With the Urban PoorGod calls us all to be in relationship with the poor. Not just to donate to charity, but to know poor people, to become friends with them.
Many middle-class Christians live, work, and worship in neighborhoods where they have little opportunity to get to know poor people. For middle-class Christians who want to fulfill Jesus’ call to bring Good News to the poor, Hilltop Urban Church offers ways for middle-class and poor people to get to know one another, serve one another, learn from one another, and fall in love with one another. This isn’t just about people with more giving to those with less; it’s about growing life-giving cross-cultural relationships where both give and receive. |
Volunteer Opportunities
CHILDREN'S MINISTRY
If you love working with children, there are many opportunities for you to work with our Children’s Ministry Team—our Fall Family Bash (our version of Vacation Bible School), kids’ campouts, children’s ministry at an evening house church, or nursery care for weeknight ministry events. |
NEIGHBORHOOD THANKSGIVING FEAST
We host a huge Thanksgiving Feast for our neighborhood each year the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Most of the food for this is usually donated by partner churches. This is also a great place for volunteers to plug in—working in the kitchen alongside Hilltop cooks to prepare the feast, helping with decorating, and joining us for the feast to build relationships over a wonderful meal. |
HOUSE CHURCH
Our house churches are the heartbeat of our life together. This is where people become family and where life transformation takes place. If God is calling you to enter into deep relationship with the urban poor, a powerful way to do that is to join one of our house churches. You can help to provide a solid core for the house church by attending faithfully and strongly supporting the shepherds (house church leaders). You will also come to know deeply and fall in love with all the others who attend the house church. Not only will you be an encouragement to them, but your friendship with them will transform your life in ways that will surprise you. One middle class friend who attended one of our house churches for a couple of years said, “I thought I was a Christian, but it was at Hilltop that I really learned how to be a Christian.” |
